Career prep question; from YouChat, March 2023
Question: If I wanted to use my nursing credential from Vietnam, what
would I need to do to be employable in the US?
To use your nursing credentials from Vietnam in the US, you would need to
complete an evaluation of your education and credentials through the
Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) or a similar
organization. This evaluation will determine the equivalency of your nursing
education to that of US nursing education and provide recommendations for
further courses or exams to meet licensing requirements. Once you have
completed the evaluation, you would then need to meet the licensing
requirements for practicing as a nurse in your state. This typically involves
passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and completing
any additional state requirements. Additionally, you may need to obtain
proficiency in English and have legal authorization to work in the United
States. It may be helpful to contact the state board of nursing or a nursing
organization for guidance on the process.
